Original music by Oliver Tallent. Saxophone by Stephen Donoghue. This was an unusual one for me, because I had to come up with my own solo, I decided to pull parts out of time or slightly out of the groove, but if the process taught me anything it’s 'DON'T ALWAYS FOLLOW THE STANDARD OR NORM', don’t be afraid to produce something a little unusual!
I was inspired by the American jazz tenor saxophonist Tivon Pennicott, who is Gregory Porter’s saxophone player, and a phenomenal improvisor. He is one of my favourite saxophone players, and has been described as having a "fearless" approach to improvising. That is exactly what I decided to do for the last half of the solo where I pull things slightly out of the groove. |
